Who are we?
Who are we?
Colega Madrid is an organization that fights for the equality of LGBT folks in Madrid. Our principal objective is to promote respect for diversity so that individuals may freely express their sexuality and gender identities.
Colega Madrid, established in 2002, stands for Collective of Lesbians and Gays or, in Spanish, Colectivo de Lebianas y Gays (“CO.LE.GA.”). Since its founding, the organization has developed projects throughout Madrid, establishing itself as a strong presence in the nation’s capital while also reaching out to smaller cities and communities. We want Colega Madrid to be an instrument for social participation and transformation, a civic education that allows us to exist within the context of our lived realities.
Colega Madrid is dedicated to making shared spaces more inclusive. Rather than abandoning these spaces, we want to live, participate and coexist in society. Our commitment to this cause will help neighborhoods, families and individuals become more respectful of diversity.
Our headquarters in Madrid and Getafe offer a space where community members can share experiences, access information, and participate in activism. Men and women concerned with the maltreatment of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender folks come together to collaborate at Colega on projects and activities that increase awareness about, and respect for, diversity.
